Story

Greg Pichler of the Progressive Shamanists has released a YouTube Video entitled, Walt Whitman Fight Song, on March 5, 2022 as part of the development of the comedy sitcom pilot, Vikings.

Background

Greg Pichler of the Progressive Shamanists composed the YouTube Video, Walt Whitman Fight Song, on March 5, 2022 as part of the development of bumper for a pilot for the situational comedy series, Vikings.

What the video is about

The music video above is the bumper for a pilot for the situational comedy series, Vikings. The situation comedy is only loosely based on the lives of the alumni of Walt Whitman High School, class of 1978. However, the fictional high school in the situational comedy is Walt Whitman Collegiate Institute in North York, Ontario, otherwise mid-town Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The main character is a 62-year-old, information technology professional who struggles with adjusting to life as a divorced father to a 26-year-old daughter in a woke, neo-Marxist culture. Most of the adult characters in the situational comedy are alumni of Walt Whitman Collegiate Institute where G.E., the main character graduated in 1982.

In the first episode, The Christmas Dinner, G.E. and his girlfriend, Melanie Finch, host a holiday dinner for Melanie's son, James Avenatti, and his girlfriend, Elaine Fishbaum at their detached house in the Leslieville neighborhood of downtown Toronto, Ontario. Fishbaum, who has no children, is a two-time divorcee, who at age forty-four is sixteen years older than James. James Avenatti is twenty-eight years old. James is a struggling contractor, who specializes in hardscaping residential properties. After a terrible year in the hardscapping business over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, James moves back in with his father in Unionville, Ontario, a suburb of Toronto, Ontario, to save money.

Avenatti is hypersensitive to anything he interprets as criticism or even when he is corrected over a misconception. The night ends in tragedy as G.E. asks Avenatti, who is currently out-of-work, what he is doing during the day, but initially stumbles his inquiry. Avenatti interprets the inquiry as a micro-aggression (e.g., a humiliating attack), and that triggers Avenatti into fit of rage.
