The Headlights - Farewell Tour Rehearsal



Background

The collection entitled, Farewell Tour Rehearsal, 1977, was recorded during a single rehearsal prior to a live performance by the group on November 24, 1977. The collection was recorded on a TEAC 2-track, 7 1/2 inch, reel-to-reel, tape deck at the Highboro Drive Studio. The case holding the tape is physically labeled, Farewell Rehearsal, Third Edition.

The Headlights, whose members were still attending Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, Maryland as seniors at the time, rehearsed two original songs, including Head On Collision (E Lefcowitz, GE Pichler), and White Lady (E Lefcowitz). The song, Head On Collision, which was a collaboration between Lefcowitz and Pichler, does not appear on any other collection the group ever produced.

The songs, Dazed And Confused (J Page), and Lost Hope (GE Pichler) were not performed during the rehearsal at the Highboro Drive studio. In fact Pichler recorded the tracks on the reel-to-reel tape separately from the rehearsal.

Pichler recorded the track, Dazed And Confused, over the Summer of 1978, experimenting the use of a violin bow against his Gibson Les Paul guitar. The track is a one-off and the Headlights never performed the Jimmy Page song, Dazed And Confused, in public.

Pichler recorded the track, Lost Hope, as a demo over the Summer of 1978. As was the case with the song, Dazed And Confused, the Headlights never performed Pichler's original song in public.
